the terra madre network the gardenS project have been essential in developing awareness of Slow food across the continent. Before Terra Madre 2004, Africa had just two convivia, in South Africa, and three Presidia, in Madagascar and Morocco. Terra Madre has generated new energy, leadingto the creation of new convivia, and giving food communities the task of spreading the Slow Food philosophy, which otherwise would have struggled to take root. With the African food gardens, Slow Food and Terra Madre have had even greater success.
